The 17th C Binnendijkse Buitenvelderse polder owes its name to the location between the dikes of the rivers Amstel and Schinkel.
The Rieker mill , a drainage mill on the Amsteldijk, originally stood in a different location near the Nieuwe meer.The mill was moved to its present spot in 1961, to be used by the water authority to drain excess water from the polder into the Amstel river, or to refresh the water in the polder.
