The Westerkerk was built at the beginning of the 17th C by Hendrick de Keijser. On the clock tower you can make out a rooster, the symbol for Calvinist churches.
Also on top of the tower there’s a crown. This crown is part of the coat of arms of Amsterdam, which you can see below the clock.
Former Lutheran church on Singel.
The church was built in the 17th C.
At the time only Calvinist churches could have a bell tower. But by adding the little lantern, the church had a mini tower. The Swan on top was the symbol for Lutheran churches. Do you know what the symbol for Calvinist churches was?
