The Zuiderkerk(southern-church).
This church was the first church to be built at the beginning of the 17th century especially for protestant worship. The architect was Hendrick de Keijser. After the ‘Alteration’ of 1578 when the catholic government of the city was replaced by a protestant government the catholic churches were converted into places of worship for the protestants. Catholics were no longer allowed to openly worship at the time, instead they used ‘schuilkerken’ , hidden churches.
