Bicycle tour
With over 23,4 million bicycles in the Netherlands, there are more bicycles than inhabitants. The Dutch have on average 1.3 bicycles per person (in the USA 0.3). Most of the country is flat and there are 37,000 km (almost 23,000 miles) of bike paths, which makes it a good destination for bicycle tours. In 2021 the Dutch travelled a whopping 16.1 billion km (more than 10 billion miles) by bike, 25% of all traffic movement is done by bicycle.
With a bicycle tour you can cover a lot of distance in a short time. Join me on a 3-hour tour during which we will a see a part of the city centre and then head to the eastern part of the city. We will explore the Docklands with the artificial islands Java, KNSM and Borneo, where you can admire the modern architecture. Then we'll proceed to the Jewish Quarter and the Plantation district with the Zoo. We will pass a windmill. We'll cycle a bit along the Amstel river to see the famous Skinny Bridge. The tour continues through the southern quarter with the Museum square before heading back to the centre. Of course there is time to take plenty of photos and a break in a typical Dutch café along the way.
Please note: you will have to bring your own bicycle. There are many places in the city where you can rent them. Also, a lot of hotels have bicycles for their guests. If you decide to join me on a tour, I can help you find a place near your hotel to rent a bicycle.
You will notice that few Dutch people wear helmets. Some of the bicycle rentals provide helmets. We will try to avoid busy areas, however, joining the bicycle tour is at your own risk!
